Upgrading builder-grade Barkley.
Barkley is one of Bellingham's newer neighborhoods, a planned community of homes mostly built from the late 1990s into the 2000s up on the east side near Barkley Village. These houses went up with builder-grade exteriors: thin vinyl, or the early generations of fiber cement that were installed before a lot of crews dialed in the flashing and rainscreen details. Twenty-some years on, that cladding is faded, dented, or just dated, and homeowners want to upgrade to something that looks current and performs better.
The good news is that Barkley re-sides usually hold fewer surprises than the older neighborhoods. The houses are newer, the framing is sound, and we don't typically open a wall to decades of trapped rot, though we always check. That makes these clean re-clad and trim-refresh jobs: off with the tired builder vinyl, on with quality fiber cement or insulated vinyl, new corner boards and window trim, and a rainscreen and proper flashing the original builder may have skipped. It's the upgrade that takes a builder-grade house and gives it a real, lasting exterior.
